‘It is time for Michigan to make sensible decisions and open indoor dining immediately’
LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Curt VanderWall, R-Ludington, issued the following statement Wednesday after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Department of Health and Human Services announced they are extending the state’s ban on in-person dining at restaurants through Feb. 1:
“The three key metrics the state is using to guide COVID-19 reopening decisions have improved since the epidemic order issued in November, yet for some reason the governor appears to have ignored this data, and she continues to make arbitrary decisions that punish the restaurant industry.
“Daily COVID-19 cases have been cut in half, the positive test percentage is down by more than 45%, and hospitalizations have dropped by nearly 40%.
“In addition, the weekly average of cases per million people is down 70% since November.
“Michigan is one of only three states that has a statewide ban on in-person dining still in effect. It is time for Michigan to make sensible decisions and open indoor dining immediately.”
