Sen. VanderWall responds to Michigan’s involvement in lawsuit over border wall

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Curt VanderWall, R-Ludington, on Friday issued the following statement regarding the decision by Michigan’s attorney general to join a lawsuit of several states suing President Donald Trump over his declaration of a national emergency to build a border wall.

“The decision by the attorney general to join this lawsuit is a partisan maneuver that is designed to prevent President Trump from protecting our nation’s southern border.

“For the safety and protection of American citizens, we must do all we can to secure our borders.

“A physical barrier is an integral part of that security. That is why previous presidents, including President Obama, took the necessary step of building miles of border barriers.

“I find it interesting that the Michigan Democratic Party has sent out fundraising requests based on the attorney general’s involvement in this case. This indicates she is more interested in politics than upholding the law.

“Michigan should withdraw from this lawsuit, and the attorney general should do her job.”
