Sen. VanderWall comments on 2019 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — After listening to the governor’s 2019 State of the State address Tuesday night, Health Policy and Human Services Committee Chairman Sen. Curt VanderWall, R-Ludington, issued the following statement.

“I wish the governor would have discussed more of her plan to address auto insurance reform. This issue is the Senate Republicans’ top priority, and I hope the governor will champion Senate Bill 1, which would provide relief for consumers by addressing the root causes of Michigan’s extreme car insurance rates.

“She did mention education several times, for which I applaud her. Strengthening education and career readiness opportunities for our young people as well as those already in the workforce will help ensure that our comeback remains strong and that we are prepared for the future.

“Michigan has natural resources unparalleled among the states. I hope the governor has a plan to protect our natural resources and manage them wisely for job creation and tourism.

“We should do all we can to make Michigan the place where folks want to live, work and raise a family. I look forward to working with the governor to find common ground to make that a reality.”
